What & how
What We Do
We present a different way of commercializing specialty coffee, where consumers have a direct impact on the producer’s community at origin and on the quality of the coffee they will consume in the future.
We promote a business model based on transparency and traceability. We create strong bonds based on trust between all members of the community. Our proposal brings a real commitment between all our stakeholders and the coffee-producing communities. With that purpose, we manage the implementation of sustainable projects that aim to impact positively on the well-being, and promote development in the producing communities.
We bring producer and consumer together in an interrelated relationship; the small producer grows and takes care of the coffee, and the consumer, by just buying their coffee at market prices, can actually make a positive impact in the community and become an active part of the complete coffee producing cycle.
How We Do It
In a very simple way, what we do is to clean up the normal coffee value chain. We eliminate unnecessary intermediaries, optimize costs and assign a profit dependable on what happens in the producer country and community.
Through this, we notice that by eliminating the intermediaries and optimizing costs, we can reorganize the profits and even have a fund directed to the improvement of coffee’s quality and the livelihood of the producing communities.
Transparency and Traceability
Transparency is the foundation of our business model; as long as it is allowed by law and does not infringe rights of third parties, Ombligo de Luna is committed to always show the full story within the coffee journey.
We believe that trust is fundamental in our way of doing business and is the key to Ombligo de Luna’s proposal. In order to support our total transparency philosophy through the coffee journey, we develop price transparency reports for the green and roasted coffee beans that we sell. We include all the components of the pricing, the costs directly involved through the coffee journey, and the profit of each member of Ombligo de Luna’s community.
We ensure not only our proposal of 100% pricing transparency, but also the complete traceability of the coffee you are drinking. We make a photographic report of the complete journey of the bean of coffee; since it was a flower on the coffee three, till it’s roasted and in your hands ready to be drunk. We want you to know in more detail the process behind the coffee, the companies involved, but most importantly, the people that make it all possible, by scanning the QR code you will be able to see the path your coffee took. You will know the origin and characteristics of your coffee, the people who worked hard to grow and harvest it, where it was processed, the departure and delivery port, and every step that your coffee took along its journey.
